The Beadle rebuilds entered service with Southdown Motor Services between 1952 and 1954. In an attempt to ease the shortage of new vehicles during this period Beadle of Dartford developed an integral coach with new bodywork but running units from withdrawn pre-war vehicles.

A number of BET companies bought these coaches which had either AEC or Leyland units.

Maidstone & District and East Kent also took some rebuilds and these will be the subject of a future kit.

A total of 50 were purchased by Southdown and based on Leyland TS8 running units.

The kit is modelled on the first 20 which were lengthened to 30` and had 35 seat centre entrance bodies. They arrived in 1952 and were numbered 850-69 (LCD 850-869). Many were later converted to one man operated buses.
